Relay 2000
The Trans Canada Trail is the longest in the world. Relay 2000 began when a
bottle of water was drawn from each of the three great oceans bordering Canada
and also this trail. The starting points are Tuktoyaktuk, Northwest Territories,
Victoria, British Columbia and St. John's, Newfoundland. From February to September
2000 five thousand official Carriers along the Trans Canada Trail relay these
waters.
On September 9th the Trans Canada Trail officially opened. A ceremony marked
both the official opening and will conclude at the end of Relay 2000. The water
from the three oceans will be poured into a newly constructed Trans Canada Trail
Fountain. The Seniors Association of Lindsay provided a refreshment booth for
Carriers when the relay passed through Victoria County on August 28th, 2000.
The Seniors sold train whistles to contribute to aiding this endeavour.
