Information on the CAP Program

Introduction

Industry Canada’s Community Access Program aims to establish a national network of community access sites, in order to provide communities with affordable public access to the Internet. A community access site is a single location or a series of locations where the Internet is available to the public. CAP is a key component in the Connecting Canadians Strategy to the Information Highway, which helps Canada create jobs and other social, educational and economic benefits associated with the expanded use of new information technologies. Any member of the community may use the site and have access to the Internet. Community Access Program

CAP’s Specific Objectives

• To provide Canada’s rural communities with better and more affordable access to the Information Highway and to raise awareness about its potential for creating jobs and growth.
• To stimulate the development of new electronic learning tools and services by and for rural communities.
• To provide Internet training facilities for local entrepreneurs, employees, educators, students and others interested in improving their information management and networking skills.
• To stimulate the electronic delivery of government and other services and obtain feedback from citizens about how they would like these presented.

  Kawartha Lakes CAP Information
  The Kawartha Lakes CAP (KLCAP) is an Industry Canada sponsored initiative which aims to provide Canadians with affordable access to the Internet and skills needed to use it effectively.
